Tips for Accurate Use on Our Arm Model NA100
Remove all tight-fitting clothing from your arm.
The cuff position should be at the same level as
your heart. Or the bottom edge of the cuff should
be about 2 cm above your elbow joint.
Adjust the cuff position such that the tubing runs
down from the centre of your arm.
Rest your arm on a table and face your palm up.
The cuff should be tightly wrapped around your
upper arm. As a general reference, the tightness
should be such that you can still fit one finger in
between your arm and the cuff.
Note that a loosely wrapped cuff will give
inaccurate reading or error message.
Additional Tips for Accurate Use
Check your monitor’s accuracy.
Before you use a blood pressure monitor for the first time, it is a
good practice to have your blood pressure monitor’s readings
verify against the model used by your doctor or nurse in the clinic.
Measure your blood pressure twice daily.
Measure twice daily with one in the morning before you take any
medications, and another in the evening. Each time, takes two to
three readings to check your blood pressure. Cultivate a habit to
measure your blood pressure everyday at the same time and
under the same conditions.
Do not measure your blood pressure right after you wake up.
Your blood pressure is at its highest first thing in the morning. It is
advisable to wait for an hour or so before you take your reading.
Avoid food, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol and exercise for 30
minutes or more before taking measurement.
Avoid taking measurements during stressful times too. Avoid as
many external influences as you can so that the measurements
taken will reflect more accurately on your actual body condition.
Also, if necessary, go to toilet first as a full bladder is likely to rise
the blood pressure slightly.
Sit upright and relax before taking measurement.
Sit up straight with your back supported against a chair. Always
remain comfortable with both feet flat on the ground.
Do not talk or move during the measurements.
